A Multidisciplinary perspective
The multidisciplinary PhD Programme Voice, Language and Communication offered by the University of Lisbon is aimed at the further education of graduates and holders of a Master’s degree in different areas of knowledge who are interested in research work mainly in the language sciences, the health sciences and technology, the biomedical sciences, audiology, the performing arts, theatre, singing, cinema, publicity or the mass media. The course involves multidisciplinary perspectives of the oral and/or written verbal language in various contexts and diverse types of social interaction.
This first aim paves the way to creating tools and technologies that are specifically directed at evaluating knowledge and verbal behaviours in European Portuguese and that will help towards setting up ancilliary diagnostic means that may be applied in the health and educational fields. Hence, knowledge produced within the sphere of the University of Lisbon is made to intermesh and become productive; it is shared on a scientific plane and, wherever possible, it is made available to the general community.
The aims of this PhD Programme stand out from the purposes of other programmes that are already running and which offer further education in the domain of language therapy for subjects suffering from disturbed verbal behaviour during their development or as adults. Links will be progressively activated with other PhD programmes working along similar aims mainly in Europe and the USA.
